Big Yin Energy

My current hobby/passion is researching the opposite yet harmonising forces of nature that is: masculine and feminine energy. Both males and females embody both, the more these energies are in balance the better individuals will function and feel overall peace, when unbalanced results in ungrounded stress and unrest.

Demonstrated in the yin and yang symbol the energies are like polarities of a battery, light and shadow casting on each other. This plays out in within an individual, relationships and sexual compatibility. Some women have more dominant masculine traits and vice versa which is perfectly normal, an overarching balance of both and strengthening the lesser is ideal.

Masculine // Yang

Society is mostly 'yang' oriented. Qualities: heat, goal setting, decisiveness, focus, temperament, leadership and direction. Out of balance male energy manifests as ‘power hungry’, hardness and overdominance.

Feminine // Yin

Relates to: the moon, earth, water, creativity, feeling, nurturing, empathy, wisdom, surrender, soft, cooling and receiving qualities. Out of balance female energy manifests as uncertainty, fear, lack of creativity and false modesty.  (The modern world means women can easily be more in their masculine at the cost feminine energy)

Masculine energy gives you the ability to take control of your life and feminine energy enables letting go of trying to control the lives of others. The balance of the two reflects in how you feel and treat others (both requiring awareness and knowledge of ‘the inner self’).

With everything I’m learning my favourite activity to drop into my feminine is yin yoga, a slow and restorative paced yoga which incorporates traditional Chinese medicine practices with poses that are held for 1 – 5 minutes each. It brings the body into operating from the (rest and digest) parasympathetic nervous system where everything starts to soften and open up space for our bodies to consciously communicate with our minds.

Ways Nourish The Yin

  • Try to be asleep before 10pm

  • Sleep in a very dark room (not on a full stomach)

  • Limit night screen time

  • Avoid rushing

  • Hydrate the body with water or immerse yourself in water (bath, ocean, pool)

  • Include good fats in your diet (full fat organic if dairy, avocado, good oils, nuts)

  • Surround yourself with people you love

  • Prioritise receiving

  • Use all your senses (feminine is feeling so touch, observe or close your eyes when buying produce to smell and experience something through all senses)

  • Limit fearful moments (ie. caution around scary movies, driving in intense weather)

  • Do an activity that exercises your creativity

  • Have intentional time with other women (recharges your feminine energy hugely)

  • Be in nature

  • Participate in slow moving activities or just move (feminine energy is moving energy)

  • Meditate

  • Create moments without any activity at all to experience stillness

  • Try not to think about work when not at work

  • Orgasm (men get depleted of their masculine energy by ejeculating too frequently, women only benefit reaching orgasm)

Ways Nourish The Yang

  • Posture (stand up straight with your shoulders back and your chest exposed. Walk with purpose, wear clothes that fit you and look at people directly in their eyes)

  • Do something competitive (Play a video game, set an aggressive goal at work, engage in some type of sport)

  • Find a mentor (a man that embodies the qualities that you admire)

  • Work on strength at the gym or boxing class type fitness, lifting weights, moving some furniture to give a new look to your space, carrying as many grocery bags as you can from your car to the house)

  • Meditate on the Solar Plexus

  • Spend time with other (non-toxic) men

  • Write a to do list and break it down into manageable goals with a time frame

  • Initiate giving especially to your partner (masculinity is the initiator and giver in all areas of life including sexually)

  • Refrain from excessive ejaculations (if you refrain from ejaculation as often as you likely do now then your sexual masculine energy will start to build up within your body)

  • Examine your wounds surrounding the Masculine

  • Practise deep breathing (masculine energy is the stillness and sameness in all things and consistency)
