Festive Season Survival Guide
Tis the season to celebrate. Consider these actions to keep you balanced not burnt out for the holidays
1. Rest when you can – the festive season can be one social commitment after another. Put aside some quality time to revitalise, rest and digest.
2. Hydrate – with added celebratory drinks and food means your body will require more water to carry out bodily functions and filter out toxins. Keep a bottle on hand and aim for an influx of H2O between meals.
3. Protein for pre’s – Eat a protein rich snack before a party such as raw balls, protein shake, hummus and veggie sticks or a handful of nuts. This helps slow alcohol absorption and to keep your cool especially if day drinking.
4. Mix up the drinks – Volunteer to be designated driver or just set some alcohol free nights to give your liver and microbiome a break. Kombucha and sparkling water present as tasty and festive alternatives. Limiting sugary cocktails and swapping for spirits and soda water are also a great compromise (have you ever tried vodka and kombucha?).
5. Get your greens In – dark leafy and cruciferous vegetables are the best way to combat holiday food. Your liver and energy levels will thank you for including raw veggies on platter boards and having a green smoothie for a meal here and there.
6. Find incidental exercise – group walks after dinner, taking the stairs, going for a swim, parking further away = great holiday movement.
7. ENJOY YOURSELF - Relax and aim for progress not perfection to eat perfectly. How you eat can be more important than what you eat so enjoy some indulgences with loved ones. What you do most of the holiday season will show up on and inside your body not what you do occasionally.
